Below is a series of prints I had made in my time at metro. I was very interested in the psychedelic band posters printed in the sixties, matched with my style and visual story telling elements. Some elements i often return to is the mushroom, aspen trees, tree of knowledge with his large beard, elephants, meditating figures and animals.
below is an intaglio print that was meant to represent my own currency. i had made three separate plate that i could mix and match layering to make different complicated patterns to attempt to mimic modern currencies layer and colors. THe main figure on the work is terence mckenna, a popular figure who discusses ethic, culture and the use of medicinal mushrooms during the 1970’s counter culture movements. Another figure on my currency, was murray rothebard, a man who made major contributions to economics, political philosophy and founder of anarcho-capitalism. This currency is backed by gold, as i see a major modern issue is the american dollar removed itself from the gold standard and runs as a fiat currency.
above are works of pastel, pen and denatured alcohol on mylar. i experiment with the translucent nature of the mylar to create interesting light boxes.
the above series is pen, denatured alcohol on mylar. in These works i attempt to dig into some of reality, the physical domain that keeps our minds locked up and unable to find enlightenment. our established society has many means of control and the utilization of those means is used to keep people from finding their true potential. The potential to be free and to live peaceful lives, where the planet is not destroyed and the elites do not own billions of dollars and the resources of the planet.
These works use boxes expanding outwardly to represent components of the mind. The galaxy is often used to show the vastness of the reality we are in as well as the mind. these figures contemplate their experiences in relation to the greatness of space and time.
below is the majority of my under graduate artwork done at metro during 2010-2014. Here are my graphite and charcoal drawings. Many of them are mostly learning materials but have some symbolism that has carried through the rest of my work.
lastly, here is my high school portfolio, made in 2006-2010. I have been making art since i can remember and has always been my passion. there is a series here of stacks of stuff that i viewed as self portraits. these mounds, (maybe echoing the mounds in my trash piles) are all things I was very interested in at the time i made these works. even then i was making narrative works that told the view about me while sharing a fantastical tale in an interesting way. I have come so far since these works, i keep them and remember where i have come from.
Perhaps i will revisit theses compositions and make modern equivalents to what i enjoy now.
